Rented DVDs Smell Like Pizza

“Don’t forget the napkins when you watch a DVD in Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Domino’s has teamed up with 10 rental stores to use movie DVDs for an unusual marketing push. Users pop in a rented DVD like they would any other, and after they’ve watched the film and take the disc out, the DVD disc shows a picture of a pizza and emits the aroma of one of Domino’s pies.”

Telenovelas Still As the Stars

“At Univision Communications’ upfront presentation, President-CEO Randy Falco posed the question ‘What’s better, more or less?’ Mr. Falco was playing the role of the deadpan moderator in a commercial spoofing AT&T‘s ubiquitous TV campaign in which four small children debate why it’s better to have more, or be faster. In the Univision version, Mr. Falco horrifies the kids with a scenario in which they go into a donut shop but get only half a donut. The kids rant charmingly about ridiculous, mean people who would steal their money by giving them less than they paid for.”

Two Parallel Deals

“Super-charged growth? Yup. Fueled by user-generated content that comes with potential copyright headaches? Got it! Barely there revenues? Of course! Billion-dollar-plus price tag? Check! Yes, all of that describes the Yahoo-Tumblr deal. And it also describes Google’s move to buy YouTube in the fall of 2006. Which doesn’t mean the two deals are parallel, of course. For starters, the $1.6 billion Google spent on YouTube was a drop in the bucket for the search engine. But $1.1 billion is spending is a very big chunk of Yahoo’s cash pile.”

The Billboard Music Awards Red (Blue) Carpet

The Billboard Music Awards Red (Blue) Carpet at dm2hispanics.com

“You never know what kind of fashion to expect from a music industry awards show like the Billboard Music Awards. That’s both a good and bad thing. Good because you know for certain that it won’t be a red (or in Billboard’s case blue) carpet parade of ho-hum strapless mermaid hem dresses. Bad because there will be those outfits of questionable taste. Fashion choices made to create a stir like that tin foil-esque outfit of rays and scales of someone named ZLala that looked like a mediocre attempt at Lady Gaga fashion.”

Social Media Transforming the Recruitment Software Industry

“[...]By combining employee referrals and modern social media tools, RolePoint say that companies can dramatically improve the quality of the employees they hire by reaching out to passive candidates on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Until the past few years, effectively implementing an employee referral program into a corporate recruitment strategy was significantly more time consuming.
